The same joy can be derived by skipping the lecture and going to a chinese buffet instead...
thats what i find anyway.

I've never had a lecture cancelled and this makes me quite bitter but now I realise there is a Chinese buffet option so I shall be trying that.

I realised that I couldn't be arsed to spend two hours on the tram just to visit a Chinese buffet by myself.

Two hours on a tram to go to a Chinese buffet? Which Chinese buffet were you going to?

Theres one near Arundel gate, and one near the tram stop near KFC, and does it really take you an hour to get to the city centre?

Depends on the traffic and how many people have to get off and on the tram plus I also have to walk for 15 minutes to get to the tram. Tis a waste of my life. Its starting to aggravate me that it always has to take the same route.

Yes I did question whether it was worth the small amount of my effort I expended in posting that.

We should have a post of the day/week award, anyway.

onto the original question ad nowadays i find the cancellation of a lecture to be more bothersome than joyful. All my lectures are 9 o'clock, and Hallam doesn't tend to let you know until the lecture is due top start. So you've gotten up, gotten ready, made the (admittedly short) walk to the lecture, sat down in the lecture room, and voila a text arrives saying the lecture has cancelled! Enter the realisation that you are awake for no good reason and begin sobbing.

The Tony icon! I forgot thee existed Tony

It doesn't actually bother me anymore since I have so many lectures I have to stay in town all day whatever happens. The greatest joy I've ever experienced was sitting a test where the lecturer had forgotten to supply an information sheet required to answerer four questions rendering a quarter of my exam void.

Who told you universities were progressive? Its like at graduations where they have people in a surprising variety of funny hats and gowns wandering around and a guy with a huge golden staff/mace type thing, they don't like to change traditions. If they started failing students there'd be less fees, fees are their favourite tradition.

Yearning after the days of empire eh? Though isn't that more an American thing these days? Most people under the age of 60/70 don't seem fussed about that sort of thing anymore.
