My flatemates' taste in music

Post  Christophe on Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:41 am

Good God. Woeful. Truly woeful. Right now my ears are being subjected to the kind of faux-macho, burly metal wankery that I thought people grew out of long before they went to university and discovered that hey, not everything comes in black and only black. The kind of bands that don't realise a complete lack of ingenuity and songwriting ability cannot be painted over with tediously ostentatious soloing that is completely at odds with the rest of the "song" (by which I mean 6 minutes of palm-muted power chords and vocals lower than Harold Shipman's morals). And to make it worse, two of them have the exact same taste in music, so not only do I have to hear this shite on a daily basis, I have to hear it twice. And it can't be drowned out easily, because sadly the type of music I listen to comes in a variety of volumes, rather than just a monotonous one: LOUD.

Questions:
Who thinks Ozzy Osbourne is anything other than a cause of comedy?
Who, really now, actually likes Iron Maiden?
What kind of 20-year-old likes Korn?!

Answers:
My flatmates.

Pity me.

I'm sorry to hear what you've been going through, but if you can't beat them, join them.

Next time you're in Dronfield I expect to see you looking like a lanky Ferg.

That's a point, I haven't seen you since last summer Sad

The Korn thing astounded me. Really? And he lets other people know he likes them? Astonishing!

While I'd be irritated beyond reason if I was in your situation some of this music is truly funny. Especially some of the cheesy solos. These bands are clearly of the train of thought that the "goodness" of a song is directly proportional to the amount of single notes played in one second (Possibly extra goodness for how long they can repeat the same set of notes really quickly without their audience gnawing each others ears off).

That's a point, I haven't seen you since last summer Sad

Me also. He clearly doesn't have the time for us any more.

I can't get enough of my orc based smileys. I feel the need to use them in every post now.

God you're right, I haven't. I miss thee, both of you. I was planning on popping back for the weekend sometime soon but then I found out the Easter hols are in like 3 weeks so I may as well wait til then. I'm well and truly skint you see.

You two should both come up and visit my hovel sometime (not that I've glorified it much here). I had a rate good time when Grainy came and stayed at my halls last year - a repeat performance is needed I think. And Paul - well, you've never even visited...sob sob...

They aren't empty promises your just being far too optimistic. I have to build up to these things. It will happen. Eventually.....

Well it is time for my appearance on the forum after a lengthy absence due to laziness! i know wot ur all thinkin "finally the great one has come with his excellent grammar and even more exciting opinions" and what better place to start than on an anti metal page!

First of all SOME ozzy osborne songs r good (hellraiser being the only one tht i can think of at this moment but u get my drift). i would say tht his music has classic cheese value but they AREN'T comedic...altho i was mortified by his hosting of the brits <shudders at recollection> and these days he is starting to have the same appeal as a pantomime dame.

Maiden n Korn i hav never really liked....(Barring Number of the beast for maiden) and so i may concede agreement) but i am interested to hear wot else they listen to?

ANYHOO i hope everyone was as awed by my appearance as i assume they were and r now jumping around with enthusiasm! Thank you and good night!!

My heart did skip a beat when I saw that you'd posted, but then it returned to its normal pace and I stopped caring.

Good to have you back anyway Very Happy

Perhaps you should go away for a few weeks and see if you return is greeted with similar levels of excitement.

No, actually, don't - the forum would die if either you, Grainy, Paul or I stopped posting.
